The purpose of Link Magic is to repair, remove and replace linked documents inside of FrontRange’s GoldMine Business Contact Manager products. This includes all versions on GoldMine Standard Edition, GoldMine Sales and Marketing, GoldMine Corporate Edition, GoldMine Professional Edition, and GoldMine Premium Edition, from version 4 through 8. Link Magic supports dBase and SQL; there is currently no support for the Firebird database structure.
Through the use of technology, LinkMagic checks every link attached to GoldMine tables and finds those that are no longer valid for whatever reason. Then it allows you to define whatever path you want to check for valid files. If it finds the file in the path selected then it will repair the link and allow GoldMine to launch the file as it is programmed to do.
Link Magic will allow you to find broken links in the Info Center, Opportunity Manager, Templates and your GoldMine e-mail and in the Links tab, and repair those that are broken. If you choose to, you also have LinkMagic remove the links that are not valid.
Using the automated and manual features, you will be able to recover important, lost files faster and easier than with any other application. With a simple user interface and intuitive operations you can quickly repair those that are broken, create links to files that are not already linked to contacts, and move files that are linked to new or other locations.
What's more, you will be able to create those linked documents, by using a filter to only affect the contacts you choose. Your creation of folders can be by matching folder names on your network to the GoldMine contacts. This is an essential tool for a new GoldMine install or when modifying your filing structure to a new system.
Over time, through users interaction with the GoldMine system, files that are attached to contact records and other areas of GoldMine have there links broken because:
-
Goldmine gets moved to another server or machine
-
Users file attachments, letters, faxes, and files to their private local hard drive; instead of the common network drive
-
Attachments are deleted either accidentally or maliciously and the links are not updated
-
E-mails are deleted and the attachments are not
-
The synchronization process creates links that are incorrect because the path does not match on the server and the remote
-
Many, many other reasons....
